Delsey Luggage - A Long History
Delsey luggage has a long and glorious history, which
starts all the way back in 1911. The Delsey company started with Mr. Delahaye
who made cases for typewriters, record players and cameras. He then joined
forces in 1946 with the Seynhaeve brothers. Can you maybe guess where they got
the name from? In 1965 Delsey started producing various molded plastic
travel items, which led directly to their first hard side suitcases.
These days Delsey is the world’s number 2 luggage
manufacturer. They have 6 subsidiaries that are openly traded and at least 3
million various pieces of luggage are made every year. Delsey Luggage products
are sold in 105 countries on 5 continents.
In 1970 Delsey created the Airstyle line, the first line of
luxury hard shell luggage from France. In 1972, they launched the first ever
hard shell suitcase on wheels. 1975 saw the first hard shell luggage for the
budget minded consumer. With 1993 came the Dual Drive System luggage, with 2 or
4 wheels. In 2002 the Comby suitcase was introduced, a combined (hence the
name) hard side and soft side luggage offering. Finally in 2003 came the first
line of luggage explicitly created for women.
I personally think that you can’t go wrong with Delsey. Their
luggage collection offers all the regular choices, carry on luggage, hard side,
