Carry On Luggage - Don't Get On The Plane Without It!
Before you leave, how much
thought do you put in to your carry on luggage? Whether it’s “official” carry
on or just a backpack you’re taking with you, there are a few things to ponder
before getting on the plane.
First, what do you need to carry
on the plane? When packing carryon you might want to bring a change of clothing,
entertainment (like a book, cd player, game console, etc.) and I’d highly
recommend packing anything you can’t wait 2 days for, on the off chance they
lose your luggage.
Another thing to think about is
how heavy is your carryon? A lot of airlines have strict rules about the size
AND the weight of your carryon luggage. Always check the carry on luggage
allowances with your airline. My suggestion - pack as little as necessary to
avoid being in line at the airport frantically repacking your luggage.
A further point is obviously the
carry on luggage size. I go into further detail in my
carry on luggage size article, but the
unofficial standard is 45”. This is a total of ALL the dimensions, i.e. 22 x 14
x 9 (the standard) = 45”. I know the carry on luggage size restrictions are
confusing, just ADD the number of inches for height, width and depth. Keep in
mind that even if your luggage (carry on) is within the allotted size
restrictions, if it’s an odd shape it can still be refused.
